My friends are amazing. No, they really are!
Sarah M in particular, is probably the most Diva I have ever seen, but the one thing I love about this diva; she knows how to look good for photos!

Just recently I went on a “hair photo-shoot” with this girl, and in all honesty it was more of a “Sarah photo-shoot.” I tried really hard to focus on the long mane she had going on (extensions), but I just couldn’t help but adore how natural she was in front of a camera. This made my job infinitely easier and the photos that sprung from it all are some of my favorites.

So I really hope you all have friends who not only are naturals in front of a camera, but are fun to go on little adventures with. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends to take photos of you or vice versa. You really don’t know how amazing they will turn out until you try.

Diva or not, I think I see a lot of myself in this young 20 year old who asked for a simple (yet lovely) shoot..

Thanks for being amazing Sarah!

It’s been a little while since I dabbled in something I call Multimedia Digital Art. What that means is, I’ve clustered together a different brush to create an image of something real. It’s like mixing paints or something along those lines. However, instead of paints and such, I used brushes that represent a different image. Of course the background layer is my own mixture of color as a base, but you get the gist. I’ve fooled around with different types of effects as well, so this is new and exciting after so many years of doing the same thing over and over again.

I do hope you enjoy the few I have thus far.

Check out my Facebook website if you’d like to see more of these!
Come by the shop as well (in the navigation bar, click Shop) to purchase the image on a variety of house hold items, such as pillow shames, clocks, mugs, and other fine things!

Thanks so much for your support you guys! It’s certainly what keeps the projects going and sharing more frequent!

Word: Revisit
Definition: come back or visit again.
Synonym: return, or visit again

Believe it or not, but after a couple years of having sketched this image on the computer, just now I’ve finished a couple versions of it.

No, I normally do get back to images much quicker, but something that I thought was completed ended up not being my “best” work. As my best friend T. had put it, “showcase only your very best work. This doesn’t look done.” (She said when the image was still in its infancy.

Okay so that last part I was paraphrasing, but you get the idea.

Redraw

Redraw

Word: Redraw
Definition: draw or draw up again or differently.
Synonym: amend, rework, reexamine, redefine etc…

One evening, during a Skype call with a friend (who also happens to be an Illustrator), we decided to bust out the old sketchbooks and folders. Each page contained a fully finished drawing, or in my case a bunch of random things; this included poses, hand drawings, ideas and a bunch of art history notes. Sadly most of my work from previous years (earlier years, before my high-school days) had been tossed.

We scavenged like animals to find older and more ridiculous images. Finally after all the books and folders, I decided that I would like take on a new project. I know how terrible I am for not finishing something I started, but I really wanted to do this for myself and see what the outcome was. I wanted to know:

  1. How far have I come?
  2. What has changed about my style?
  3. Are there things I can still improve on?
  4. Have I even improved at all?
  5. What do I draw more now that I didn’t in the past?

I had seem so many people do redraws on DeviantArt, but it had never actually captured my curiosity (for my own work).

After choosing bunch of characters to redraw (only a few were actually color), I got straight to work. So here I am with the cleaned-up/colored version of my first few redraws. I haven’t added the old version to compare, but in another post I will do so. I wanted to show my clever workings before I forget.

This comes to something I want you all to try someday. Not right away, but on your own time; redraw something from your past. See how far you’ve come and what skills you really have underneath all that eraser dust. Perhaps answer those questions I posed. Share with the world your wonderful old sketches and your new version. You’ll surprise yourself and your friends.

Love – What you do

Love – What you do

Word: Love
Definition: to adorn
Synonyms: admire, adore

I love what I do. I think about it when I wake up in the morning, and I think about it when I sleep at night. One day, and I keep telling myself this, I will have my own office where there will be a couch and I’ll be working late hours so it’s significant to have one. I’ll need a place to crash for a few hours and then get back right into working.

Right now, I honestly am doing nothing but practicing work for people who have some create ideas and concepts of characters. I bring them to life and truly do I love doing it! I can create characters on my own but when people come to me, with their idea, I smile and graciously accept the challenge. These characters have depth and I love bringing them to light.

Seriously, I will enjoy doing this for the rest of my life. I hope to wake up and get straight to working on artworks for clients, and in the evening, if I have time, I’ll take up a part-time for some extra cash.

Here’s some advice from Sister Mary Clarence (Sister Act) played by Whoopie Goldberg; “If all you can do is think about singing when you go to bed at night, and when you wake up in the morning, then you should sing.”

I’m not joking! You guys, wake up and pay attention!

WIP

WIP

Word: WIP (aka Work In Progress)
Definition: a project that is onward toward a final destination
Synonyms: advance, going, headway, passage

What do I mean by WIP (work in progress), well it’s quite simple! Lately I’ve been having a bit of an art road block (so to say). My last series was such a success to me, that I feel like I can’t find anything else to draw. This poses a real problem, considering that the moment I finish one piece of art, I tend to get side tracked and leave the next project in the dust.

Let’s be honest here, I just have a serious problem. Instead of looking at an upcoming series as the “next big thing”, I think of it this way, “It wont be as good as the last”. Terrible! That is just a horrible way to look at any future work!

For now however I am really trying my best to do multiple series in the hopes that one of them will inspire me to really push for at least 5 images total. I know that’s not a lot for a series, but it is the right step in progression.

So, what does that mean? Well, if I can accomplish multiple series of 5 images, then I could maybe produce a series that has 6 or 8 or maybe more the next time I come up with a series.

A collection in Fashion has something always in common with all of its designs. whether it be the accessories added, the color, fabrics and other such things included the collection always has something that ties it together. Maybe my current series has something that ties it to the last series? If that is the case, then my collection is not 5 in each series, but 10 in total. Well, that is, if I can finish this next series of images.

Here’s to working forward!

2014 Starter Kit

2014 Starter Kit

What you will need: inspiration, any  medium/canvas (preferably something you enjoy working with, ie. pen, tablet)
How much time needed: as much as you can find in your crazy busy day
When to start: effective immediately

Of course this is something personal. I’ve been inspired to really pursue what it is that I love – my art. It wasn’t easy and it really took a lot of people to convince me, but one person in particular – T. Now I know what you’re thinking, whose this T character and what the heck are you going on about?

Well T is my best friend, and I had finally had a chance to sit with her for a couple days to catch up. You see, I only get to see her once a year, and because of my terrible spending habit, my initial action to get my career up and running in the art industry landed at the bottom of my stack of things-to-do-in-2013. Even going to see her that year had been berried in the pit of stupidity (on my end). So when she said something to me (along the lines of me having no ambition in life) it hit home. This made such an impact, that as soon as I was able too, I was drawing furiously again.

It wasn’t as though I wasn’t drawing. That wasn’t the case at all. It was the fact that I wasn’t doing anything other than drawing. There was no promotion of my work, no seeking out commissions, or even making that idea available. I wasn’t whoring myself out (pardon the expression) like all other artists were. While I sat back in my “comfort” I didn’t realize that my passion in life was being swept to the back, under some dirty rug, in some empty room that no one ever uses.

So the idea was this; I would promote myself, my work, my services. This way, I wont be in the slum for another 3 years wondering if anything will become of my work.

I urge you artists, no matter how good or bad you are at your passion, you push for it to become your life. Why would you want to do a job that you don’t like? Get in gear and get moving. Plan that budget, pull through with your sketch-a-day (no matter how small or ridiculous), and find that inspiration you need. It will be hard, and a long year, but imagine, at this age, it’s never too late.

What can I say? I have a bit of a craving for some art. I don’t know if you are aware but I have a few characters from a story I am collaborating with a few people, and they really help me to practice with my figures. I didn’t know how well I could actually do figures until I looked back to some old work that I did of live nude models; where I came across an image of a man that I drew, which stunned me. I hate drawing with the idea that I can’t have a single line out of place, however this image proved me wrong. I will add it to the blog soon, (maybe a lot of my old work too) but for now, I will just say that I have grown with my style and thanks to the idea of possibly going beyond my comfort zone of figures, I’ll produce more interesting work.

So I hope you enjoy this sexy scene.

Addition

Addition

Definition: processing of adding
Synonyms: extension, inclusion, increasing

I can’t tell you how frustrating it is when you think you’ve got something almost done, only to find out you really haven’t even reach half of the way there. However, I like to say that this is a pretty big project (regardless of the small canvas size of 11×14 for each zodiac sign). I’m actually proud that I’m even this far ahead in this project. Even though they are simple sketches, this is where you start. I just wish it didn’t take so long to come up with or even get them down on paper (having problems finding time and inspiration in the past month). I really am happy with how things are right now.

Soon you will be seeing some of them painted. I will put it out there that these are paintings I’m really looking forwarding to starting and having posted. I’ve been asked about whether or not I’ll be selling, but I think with the idea of selling as of right now is out of the question. I want to finish this (actually have all 12 signs painted) before I sell any of them. Of course you wont be waiting long, and I don’t have the patiences to have them sitting ducks.

Anyways, I do hope you enjoy the submission today! I’ll be adding Scorpio and Sagittarius and a new rendition of Aquarius when I get my hands on my sketchbook. I personally want to thank my one coworker and friend from Gaudy Sequins for helping me on figuring out Scorpio. Throwing ideas at her during lunch break was the best idea ever!

Cheers!
