My friends are amazing. No, they really are!
Sarah M in particular, is probably the most Diva I have ever seen, but the one thing I love about this diva; she knows how to look good for photos!

Just recently I went on a “hair photo-shoot” with this girl, and in all honesty it was more of a “Sarah photo-shoot.” I tried really hard to focus on the long mane she had going on (extensions), but I just couldn’t help but adore how natural she was in front of a camera. This made my job infinitely easier and the photos that sprung from it all are some of my favorites.

So I really hope you all have friends who not only are naturals in front of a camera, but are fun to go on little adventures with. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends to take photos of you or vice versa. You really don’t know how amazing they will turn out until you try.

Diva or not, I think I see a lot of myself in this young 20 year old who asked for a simple (yet lovely) shoot..

Thanks for being amazing Sarah!

It’s been a little while since I dabbled in something I call Multimedia Digital Art. What that means is, I’ve clustered together a different brush to create an image of something real. It’s like mixing paints or something along those lines. However, instead of paints and such, I used brushes that represent a different image. Of course the background layer is my own mixture of color as a base, but you get the gist. I’ve fooled around with different types of effects as well, so this is new and exciting after so many years of doing the same thing over and over again.

I do hope you enjoy the few I have thus far.

Check out my Facebook website if you’d like to see more of these!
Come by the shop as well (in the navigation bar, click Shop) to purchase the image on a variety of house hold items, such as pillow shames, clocks, mugs, and other fine things!

Thanks so much for your support you guys! It’s certainly what keeps the projects going and sharing more frequent!

Surreal

Word: Surreal
Definition: having the qualities of surrealism; bizarre.
Synonyms: unreal, bizarre, uncanny, dreamlike…etc.

I wont apologize for the lateness of this post. However I will celebrate that things are now back on track; well sort of!

For the past few months, it’s been a ride that I’d not seen coming. After some misadventures in 2016, the new year seemed a bit more promising. It’s been non-stop; go, go, go, and make sure you take a breather somewhere kind of year. Heartbreak didn’t slow me down, or stop me. Instead if freed me from one less priority to make way for other fabulous things.

What fabulous things? Well, I’ve been at the local market Since January 7th (2017), and missing only-maybe a whopping 3 or 4 days in the month (it’s only a few Saturdays considering the rest of the week it’s not open). The things I sell there rang anything from original paintings, hand colored prints, and jars full of (not so real) pixie dust for all audiences.

It’s been a wonderful kick to the new year and I wont be stopping there. I just (right before this post), officially opened my Etsy.com shop (check it out here). My relatively new images were also posted on my Facebook Fanpage (again, look here).

Yet so much still needs to be done. For now, here’s what I got for you lovely creatures!

Thanks so much for the support you’ve all given me! It paves a way for bigger and better things. I hope the artist in you try’s it’s hand at making it a life career! If not, well that’s okay too! Just enjoy the things you love and whatever makes you happy at the end of the day!

Cheers!

Lady

Lady

Word: Lady
Definition: a woman who is refined, polite, and well spoken
Synonym: queen, countess, broad, gal

These past few weeks (August 2016) have been the busiest I have ever been and I love it.
Currently I’m gearing up to put on a show to get my brand and images out there to the public. Although it’s an all ladies event, I feel like it will be a hit! Of course I will have another art show with other artists, but for now this is just to get myself out there more.

I’ve always had this fear that none of my work was worthy enough for the public to purchase. However these past few years I’ve learned that there are people who have been seriously interested in my style of art. So with this in mind, I started to put my butt in gear and produce work that not only would I love, but others too.

Over the years, although I produced plenty of work, I never got around to selling any of it. Then again, I wasn’t exactly sure how to market myself. Finally this year I got a bit of advice from business experts and here I am, selling prints and originals!

Be sure to never sell yourself short. Your work is unique, and even if it resembles another artists style that has inspired you, it’s still your own and you will always have someone out there who is more than happy to purchase your creation. Just keep producing work and don’t be afraid to put it out there to the public.

Cheers!

Plenty

Plenty

Word: Plenty
Definition: a large or sufficient amount or quantity; more than enough.
Synonyms: wealth, abundance, luxury etc…

Over the summer I had the pleasure of taking a copious amount of photographs of some of my favourite people – my friends.

There are a so many places in my city to go to for settings to take pictures. Most being that of nature but with the added touch of either rustic or a hint of beauty. Of course I gave my models the choices of their outfits but they really pulled off the things I had directed to them.

With this I only give you less than a handful of the images I’m most proud of. I hope that you all feel as though you have plenty to work with in your own cities, with your friends volunteering their time, and natures abundance of backdrops.

Take advantage of all that you have around you, because you never know what you’ll produce until you utilise these things.

Style

Style

Word: Style
Definition: a manner of doing something.
Synonyms: technique, design, vogue.

I know that many people have a “style” of art. Mine comes with the many illustrations that I have grown to love and admire of the years. Most of my style comes from this so-called “womans” touch with a dash of realism and a hint of Japanese anime. It’s interesting to look back at my old work and actually see the transformation of this so-called “style” of mine grow and blossom, to what it is today. I doubt it will stay the same forever, considering I change my hair as often as I change my style of art. However, if it does stick, I want it to be distinguishable; so that when I do produce something completely fabulous, people can point out and say “Hey, that was done by The Owl Palette – Rojin Hamid”. Big ambitions and dreams for such a short post about something that’s significant in art.

We all have a style of our own; I wonder, what yours is and would you share it with me and the world?

Love – What you do

Love – What you do

Word: Love
Definition: to adorn
Synonyms: admire, adore

I love what I do. I think about it when I wake up in the morning, and I think about it when I sleep at night. One day, and I keep telling myself this, I will have my own office where there will be a couch and I’ll be working late hours so it’s significant to have one. I’ll need a place to crash for a few hours and then get back right into working.

Right now, I honestly am doing nothing but practicing work for people who have some create ideas and concepts of characters. I bring them to life and truly do I love doing it! I can create characters on my own but when people come to me, with their idea, I smile and graciously accept the challenge. These characters have depth and I love bringing them to light.

Seriously, I will enjoy doing this for the rest of my life. I hope to wake up and get straight to working on artworks for clients, and in the evening, if I have time, I’ll take up a part-time for some extra cash.

Here’s some advice from Sister Mary Clarence (Sister Act) played by Whoopie Goldberg; “If all you can do is think about singing when you go to bed at night, and when you wake up in the morning, then you should sing.”

I’m not joking! You guys, wake up and pay attention!

Creativity and Education

Creativity and Education

Word: Creativity
Definition: the use of the imagination or original ideas, esp. in the production of an artistic work.
Synonym: inventiveness, imagination, originality

Whenever I write one of my blog entries, I seem to write “inspire”, “creativity” and other words that are normally used repeatedly in each entry. Maybe it’s because those are the most simple of words to use when trying to get a thought across, or maybe because my thesaurus is missing and I’m too lazy to look it up online. Whatever the case maybe, it all comes down to one thing – imagination.

It is because of my imagination (that never really did die) that I am able to easily come up with a new blog or sketch, or kooky idea.

Recently I watched a TedTalk during brunch before heading to my day job. I couldn’t believe how funny the speaker was, but I also had no idea that he would ultimately speak the truth of what is happening in our schools. Never did it occur to me, the never-stop-drawing girl that I was, that the school system was trying to carve away my creativity. I guess I was that oblivious to the teachers devious plans for my entire elementary career ’cause ultimately I never seemed to have lost that ability. This almost feels like a super power.

So here I give to you the link to watch and decide for yourself whether or not this is happening in our schools. Personally, I never really cared for such things It didn’t dawn on me until (after watching this) I didn’t feel “smart” or “I couldn’t achieve anything” because I, didn’t have the “book-smarts”.

2014 Starter Kit

2014 Starter Kit

What you will need: inspiration, any  medium/canvas (preferably something you enjoy working with, ie. pen, tablet)
How much time needed: as much as you can find in your crazy busy day
When to start: effective immediately

Of course this is something personal. I’ve been inspired to really pursue what it is that I love – my art. It wasn’t easy and it really took a lot of people to convince me, but one person in particular – T. Now I know what you’re thinking, whose this T character and what the heck are you going on about?

Well T is my best friend, and I had finally had a chance to sit with her for a couple days to catch up. You see, I only get to see her once a year, and because of my terrible spending habit, my initial action to get my career up and running in the art industry landed at the bottom of my stack of things-to-do-in-2013. Even going to see her that year had been berried in the pit of stupidity (on my end). So when she said something to me (along the lines of me having no ambition in life) it hit home. This made such an impact, that as soon as I was able too, I was drawing furiously again.

It wasn’t as though I wasn’t drawing. That wasn’t the case at all. It was the fact that I wasn’t doing anything other than drawing. There was no promotion of my work, no seeking out commissions, or even making that idea available. I wasn’t whoring myself out (pardon the expression) like all other artists were. While I sat back in my “comfort” I didn’t realize that my passion in life was being swept to the back, under some dirty rug, in some empty room that no one ever uses.

So the idea was this; I would promote myself, my work, my services. This way, I wont be in the slum for another 3 years wondering if anything will become of my work.

I urge you artists, no matter how good or bad you are at your passion, you push for it to become your life. Why would you want to do a job that you don’t like? Get in gear and get moving. Plan that budget, pull through with your sketch-a-day (no matter how small or ridiculous), and find that inspiration you need. It will be hard, and a long year, but imagine, at this age, it’s never too late.

Spirit

Recently I’ve been inspired.
A woman I met recently, back in May (2013), had given me some very interesting insight on the native American culture. She, being Cherokee herself, made things ten times better, in my eyes as far as art goes. So what do I do with all this information, and of course ‘inspiration’?

I begin a new series of work.

Now we are planning (she being an artist and a fan of my work) to collaborate on this project.
At first it was only the first piece, called Spirit, inspired by a video she shared with me on the Idle No More movement. I took that video and let it speak to me. Of course I came up with a man arms wide open and wings to guide him. Not to say I wasn’t pleased, it is one my of my favorites of the series, but it really brings out more than just a man looking to the spirits, but he himself is one.

The second piece was done shortly after and this attracted a lot of attention. Sure the first one’s my favorite, but it seems others found the image Spirit: dancer, far more appealing. Regardless, they are a part of a series and will always be just as good as the other (like trying to choose your favorite child, yeah that’s not happening).

So what of the third piece so far in the series? Why not a child, you might be asking? Well the woman (let’s call her T.C) has a son, and that son, for whatever reason, he and I, connect on a spiritual level as much as others. One day he tells me something but is vague and leaving much of the information out. The conversation was short, and ended much earlier than others, but the raw emotional and energy I was getting said something else. Not sure what possessed me, I took hold of my computer and drawing tablet and headed into the living room, put on music and began to draw. The entire time I was drawing he was on my mind. Eventually I uploaded the image and when he saw it, things started to get unreal. He claimed it to be him, and I, thinking this to be a good time, told him of what happened and how I myself believe this image is him.

I hope this inspiration never goes away, because for once I feel like I have something solid to work on. Let’s just keep working on other things, but stay on the big task at hand. It’s okay to do little things here and there to keep you motivated to work, but don’t consider it such. Art should be play! Play that you could potentially get paid for (hehe).

Cheers lovelies.
